Corona Virus is real and effecting everyone. Let's remember to take care of ourselves, our fur babies and each other. We are all in this together.
A Message from NARF-
We understand there are a lot of questions surrounding the impact of COVID-19 on families, communities and even our pets.
Public health officials have asked those infected with COVID-19 to quarantine themselves from pets, along with other people, based on one case of a Corona virus- infected dog in Hong Kong.
With this news we are canceling volunteers hours, until further notice. We are also canceling any and all adoption events due to prohibited mass gatherings. You can and may still adopt an animal from one of our adoptions sites but by appointment only.
This news may have you wondering whether your animal can catch COVID-19. Or perhaps you’re worried you could get infected from a Coronavirus - positive animal.
There is limited evidence to suggest that your animal is at risk for COVID-19 and there’s currently no evidence that Corona virus in animals can spread to humans, according to both World Health Organization (WHO)and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
That being said, we understand you may want to learn more about the risks and take steps to ensure the safety of your family- including your pets. Please see the links below for additional information.
UPDATE- The county of Santa Clara has implemented safety precautions in response to COVID- 19. For this reason the San Jose Animal Care Center and The Humane Society of Silicone Valley along with many other animal shelters in Santa Clara will be closed. They will not be able to accept surrenders unless injured or sick.
